Dec 04, 2025 - FASSelangor FC returned home with a point from the third match of the ACC Shopee Cup 2025/26 Group A campaign after a 1-1 draw against Cebu FC at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila yesterday.
On the pitch, the Red and Yellow squad displayed a dominant performance with 69% possession despite playing on a synthetic surface. However, the first half ended goalless. Cebu FC broke the deadlock in the 47th minute through Rico Andes before Willian Lira levelled the score seven minutes later. The second half saw both sides pushing for a winning goal, but the match ended 1-1.
The result places Selangor FC second in Group A with five points, just one point behind leaders Tampines Rovers. BG Pathum United and Công An Hà N?i each have four points, followed by Buriram United with three points, while Cebu FC remain on one point.
Selangor FC head coach, Christophe Gamel expressed his disappointment with the result and urged the team to take responsibility for improving the performance.
“This draw feels like a defeat because we created many chances but did not finish them well. With several young players fielded, there were also some less mature decisions made on the pitch. Nevertheless, I commend them for the spirit they showed. I will continue to give opportunities to the younger players and I believe they will bounce back,” he said.
“After this match, I will rest several players as they played 120 minutes in the previous game. After that, I want to see who is truly mentally ready and prepared to return to action according to our plans. The referee’s decisions are something we cannot control, but what matters most is reducing our own mistakes. The team’s performance is still inconsistent and we must take responsibility to improve it,” he added.
Next, Selangor FC will travel to Penang for their 11th match of the 2025/26 Super League season against Penang FC on 7 December at Stadium Bandaraya, Penang, at 9pm. View the December calendar here.
The Selangor FC management remain confident that the team will continue to rise and fight on until the end of the 2025/26 season.
